As health experts continue to search for treatments, vaccines and cures for the Coronavirus that has swept across the globe …
More and more are deciding that the best use of their time is to focus their attention on CBD, or Cannabidiol.
In the latest development, researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the United States have launched a study to examine how CBD interacts with the respiratory illness and to determine if CBD could be used as an effective treatment for it.
The New York Business Journal reported that Ciaran Skerry, an assistant professor of microbiology and immunology at UMB, is leading the newly launched lab-based study.
He will be investigating whether cannabidiol (CBD), an ingredient in hemp and cannabis, has anti-viral effects on cells infected with Covid-19.
Already, a study conducted by Canadian researchers at the University of Lethbridge in Canada found that CBD could help block ACE2, which is the molecule that COVID-19 uses to enter a person’s cells so that it can then spread throughout the body.
This new study at the University of Maryland will attempt to build upon this finding and further determine if CBD can reduce ACE2 activity.
In a statement on the new study, Skerry said his team will also be trying to determine if CBD can help “protect against the excessive inflammatory responses to the virus associated with lung damage and death.”
One of the biggest reasons appears to be the many health benefits that have been associated with the chemical compound already.
Numerous studies have shown that CBD has a wide range of health benefits including:
Thanks to all of these health benefits, CBD, which is derived from the hemp plant, a type of cannabis that does not have psychoactive effects like marijuana, has been soaring in popularity around the world.
Well-known medical experts like Dr. Oz and Dr. Sanjay Gupta have been quick to jump on the bandwagon and tout the benefits of CBD.
As Dr. Oz and Sanjay explain, CBD products are a non-intoxicating derivative from hemp plants that can produce numerous benefits and can be used in wide variety of products from beverages to healthcare and beauty.
Most research is still in the early stages but the limited results that have come in so far – like the University of Lethbridge study – have been quite promising.
In the University of Maryland study, researchers will also focus on CBD’s potential as anti-inflammatory agent.
This is important because COVID-19 causes aggressive inflammatory responses in infected people. These inflammatory responses can end up damaging airways and ultimately lead to acute respiratory distress or even respiratory failure.
It is now estimated that respiratory failure is the cause of death in around 70% of all Coronavirus fatalities.
Harvard Health Publishing recently cited CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties in a blog post on the site. It said:
“CBD may offer an option for treating different types of chronic pain. A study from the European Journal of Pain showed, using an animal model, CBD applied on the skin could help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis.
Another study demonstrated the mechanism by which CBD inhibits inflammatory and neuropathic pain, two of the most difficult types of chronic pain to treat.”
CBD has no known major side effects and has been shown to be safe even in high doses.
Why is this important?
Because that means if you don’t want to wait for the research to come in you can go ahead and take it without risking your health.
Then even if CBD doesn’t help prevent or treat COVID-19 you’ll still enjoy the many other health benefits associated with it.
Sarah’s Blessing has become a leading provider of CBD online. The company offers a variety of CBD products that includes:
All of the CBD products offered by Sarah’s Blessing contain full-spectrum CBD that is derived from hemp grown organically in Switzerland.
Full-spectrum CBD is important because it contains all the various cannabinoids found in the Cannabis plant. By taking multiple cannabinoids, users are expected to receive a greater number of benefits.
In addition, there is also a unique teamwork effect that researchers say exists between the various cannabinoids. This teamwork among the different elements of cannabis is called “the entourage effect” and it can be very beneficial for your health.
Basically, the various compounds and substances found in cannabis support and aid each other making the positive effects stronger and negating or even reversing negative effects.
